Job Title: Executive Director, Louisiana Partnership for Children and Families
Reports to: Board Chair, Board of Directors - Louisiana Partnership for Children and Families
Purpose of Position: Acts as Chief Executive Office and is accountable to the Board of Directors. Recommends and participates in formulation of policies and makes decisions within existing policies as approved by the Board of Directors. Plans, organizes, directs, and coordinates staff, programs, and activities to ensure that objectives are attained, plans are fulfilled, and member needs are met. Maintains effective internal and external relationships through management, leadership, and communication to achieve economical, productive performance, forward-looking programming, and constructive growth of the organization.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Board and Advisory Council Relationship:
- Ensures that the Board of Directors, Executive Committee and Advisory Council are kept fully informed of the conditions and operations of the organization and of all important factors influencing them.
- Attends all meetings of the Board of Directors, Executive Committee and Advisory Council.
- Provides guidance and information leading to planning, initiatives and policy adoption.
- Oversees the implementation of adopted plans, policies, and initiatives.
- Serves as staff associate to standing committees and task forces.
- With the Board Chair, sees that the Board and Advisory Council is effectively organized and system of board development is established.
- Assures safekeeping of official documents and records.
Human Resources Management:
- Develops the organizational structure necessary to support the organization.
- Employs, assigns, supervises, appraises and terminates staff as the agent of the board.
- Administers the personnel policies of the board.
- Works with the Executive Committee to ensure that 1) legal requirements of employers are met, 2) personnel policies are developed and reviewed, and 3) consideration is given to any question or deviations from policy.
Planning:
- Works with the Partnership’s Executive Committee to develop and maintain a strategic planning process with long-range and/or short range objectives which identifies the outcomes for children and families in the state. These outcomes will be addressed through partnerships, collaborations, initiatives, education and advocacy.
Financial Management/Fund Development:
- Carries overall responsibility with the Treasurer of the Board for all aspects of financial management, including assuring adequate financing for current operating needs and long-term goals.
- Works with the Treasurer and Executive Committee by giving leadership to: the budgeting process, the timely reporting of the Partnership’s total financial position and maintaining financial records.
- Works with the Executive Committee to assure a comprehensive and diversified fund development plan is in place.
- Prepares proposals related to initiatives and operating expenses for state and federal grants, foundation and other philanthropic sources of funding.
Membership Development:
- Implements plan with the Executive Committee to assure an involved , comprehensive and growing membership that is reflective of the diversity of the state.
- Works with the Development Committee to identify candidates for responsible leadership positions.
- Sees that general membership meetings are scheduled and planned in accordance with the bylaws.
- Informs members about the activities of the Partnership as well as emerging and on-going initiatives, and provides networking and planning opportunities.
Leadership Development:
- Assures leadership development of Partnership Board and Advisory Council members.
- With the Board Chair, sees that responsibility is assigned to volunteers for development of leadership from the membership and for placement of leaders in positions of responsibility.
- Sees to it that members/leaders participate in local, regional, state-wide and national initiatives on behalf of children and families.
Public Relations:
- Works to achieve and maintain a positive viable image for the Partnership, assuring that the Partnership is recognized as an advocate for children and families.
- Assures Partnership representation in local, state and national settings.
- Interprets and markets the Partnership through the media and the production of printed materials.
- Plans and executes communications to the general membership that includes an annual report, newsletters, general mailings, news releases, and so forth
- Maintains sound relationships with other partner organizations.
- Serves as a resource on issues relating to children and families.
Facilities Management:
- Assures the proper use, management, security and upkeep of Partnership’s facilities, equipment, either owned, rented, or provided in-kind.
Supervisor: Board Chair, Louisiana Partnership Board of Directors
Supervises: All staff of the Louisiana Partnership for Children and Families
Minimum Requirements:
- Master’s Degree in Human Services, Social Work, Education or Related field; or Bachelor’s Degree with comparable experience
- Three to five years in administration, management, and policy in addition to educational requirement, with nonprofit management preferred.
- Demonstrated management and supervisory skills, analytical research skills, communication (both verbal and written) skills, interpersonal skills, computer literacy, and negotiation skills and experience.
Salary: Commensurate with experience
